Great weekend for Ted.

At the Duke football summitt, Joe and Dick committed to Ted coaching the team through 2008, no matter what. Guess they were impressed by the awesome "improvement" the team has shown.

Happy homecoming

Homecoming 2006 was a huge success at Duke. Despite the reunion weekend being moved, lots of alums came back for fun and frivolity. In fact, Ted discovered that so much fun was going on in the Main Quad that he didn't want the alums wasting their precious time watching a football game so he made sure that the game was well in hand by halftime.

Still concerned that the inept UVa offense wouldn't be able to put the game out of reach by then, Ted made sure that they didn't have far to travel. 20 points with fewer than 50 yards of offense...

Speakign of success, have you seen the Duke special teams? 3 blocked kicked so far this season. As many as virginia tech. I'm sure the Roof/Beamer special teams coaching DVD is not far off.

Season to date...

Through three games, the Duke football season has been an unprecedant success. Despite being young, Duke has gone out on the field and competed. This valuable experience will serve Duke well for years to come.

They've been on television three times in four weeks and this exposure can only bolster recruiting and Ted's legacy. Once recruits see the quality of opposition Duke plays on a regular basis, they will want to be part of the program. And no matter the game, Duke's opponents always look sharp on national TV-- Thanks guys.

And finally, there is the stunning success of Thad Lewis. After leading Duke to a touchdown drive against Wake Forest and throwing for overly, Thad has emerged as the quarterback of the future for Duke. With hard work, it is possible that he might be able to outperform the previous QBs of the future, Asack, Schnieder, Smith, Bryant, Campbell, Romine and Greene. Keep working hard, Thad.

Ted Speaks...

Despite a busy two weeks developing a game plan for UVa, one of the few winnable games left on the schedule, Ted was able to take some time to reach out to his many fans.

Duke Football Fans,

I hope this finds you well and your family healthy and doing well. Our open week came at a very good time. I gave the players a couple of days off last week as I knew that they needed to approach the rest of the season with a fresh perspective. It also gave us a chance to get our football team somewhat healthy. Thad Lewis has recovered from his concussion he suffered during the Virginia Tech game. Ronnie Drummer is still being hampered by ankle injury suffered on the first drive of the season in the opening ballgame.

As coaches, we used the beginning of last week to perform a complete self analysis or what we call self-scout. We identified what we are doing well and some areas where we are not performing well. We play and coach the game to win and I certainly understand that winning is the ultimate measuring stick. However, we have improved as a football team in many areas that have not shown up in the win-loss column thus far. We are playing much better defense against the run and our overall total defense is improved by over 100 yards per game. We have got to get better on defense in third and long situations.

Offensively we are throwing the football much better than last year as our completion percentage has gone from 47 percent to right at 60 percent. Our average yards per attempt has increased by over three yards per attempt. We have the third highest yards per attempt in the league. Offensively we are very efficient on third down and less than six. We are over 55 percent efficient in those situations. However, our third and 7-plus efficiency has not been very good at all. It is obvious that we must stay on schedule offensively. Our red zone offense is certainly an area of emphasis for us.

We kick-off this Saturday at noon for the third consecutive game. This will also be the third consecutive game that will appear as the Lincoln Financial ACC game of the week. It will be Homecoming on Saturday at Wallace Wade and I hopeto see you there.

Welcome to Raise the Roof, the only and only website dedicated to supporting the often-overlooked coach football coach of the future, Ted Roof. Within his first three years, Ted has improved Duke's recruiting rankings from 75 to 40, nearly a 100% improvement and has played a significant role in the whitewashing of Wallace Wade stadium. I am sure only more positive will come in the near future.
